What Is It Like for You? Rethinking Voice Appropriation in Parafictional Identities in Israeli Art

The article focuses on two parafictional figures created by Israeli artists at about the same time in early 2000s: Oreet Ashery’s Marcus Fisher and Roee Rosen’s Justine Frank. Through a close reading of these case studies, I examine phenomenon characters as extreme cases voice appropriation. Against background rising international concern with cultural appropriation, sociopolitical context characterized multiplicity often conflicting identities, argue that such appropriation is, fact, basic aesthetic procedure. Using Hannah Arendt’s Immanuel Kant’s judgment political judgment, her articulation an “enlarged mentality” necessary for both thinking, demonstrates how ability to imagine position different from your own is inherent representation well reception.
